Sweet Cherry Production in Bulgaria
Traditionally, production of Cherries have been a strong sector in the Bulgarian agriculture. However, as with many other agricultural crops, there was a big decline after the fall of communism due to disintegration in agriculture and deteriorating economic circumstances. Since 2010 there is an upward general trend in production thanks to newly established gardens. However, production levels are still around half of the best production years in the past which means there is still a big potential for growth. New gardens with modern varieties prove that Bulgaria can offer the most delicious cherries under right conditions. 2013 production of 37,724 tons will continue to grow in the future thanks to new gardens that are being established.
